Melagrana Tower
The area of the Calvana mountains is marked by a scattered habitat of medieval origin, with farmhouses and tower houses, among which the Melagrana Tower - today partially ruined - rises imposingly, on the edge of a clearing above Del Bello Villa in Vaiano. The building in alberese marble, with a rectangular plan and located on the southern border of the area of influence of the Alberti counts, had a purely military function, controlling the road system that led on one side towards Montepiano and on the other towards Mugello area.
The Fortress is one of the four fortifications that you meet along the Route of the Fortress, which connects Montemurlo to the Bisenzio Valley.
