San Francesco square
The square was built between the thirteenth and the fourteenth century on a space called "l’appianato” (flat space). Today it is delimited by buildings restructured between the 17th and the 20th century and in the center of it there is an obelisk dedicated to Garibaldi made in 1889. Facing the obelisk, there is the fountain of the Dolphins, a copy of the twentieth century one made by Ferdinando Tacca in the mid 1600s.
The eastern side is occupied by the homonymous church with the Roman-Gothic facade; on the opposite corner of Via Rinaldesca, is the palace of the Roncioniana library built at the end of 1700 to host the legacy of the Prato nobleman Marco Emilio Roncioni.
