Altar, detail - Photograph by Antonio Tomasi

Basilica of San Vincenzo and Santa Caterina de' Ricci

The side faces piazza San Domenico and has an eighteenth century look given to celebrate the canonization of Saint Caterina. The vertical sandstone fascias are divided into four parts, each pierced by a large window that widens upwards. The side portal with stone cornice surmounted by a tablet with inscription is on the left-hand side. The bell tower sticks out from the rear zone. Compared to the outside, the late baroque style interior shows richness in its elements and variety in the materials.
The diffuse light highlights the marble reliefs on the walls and on the high altar, work of the Florentine sculptors Foggini and Ticciano.
The unspoiled body of the Saint can be seen in the lower part of the altar, in an urn behind a grating.
