Spindles
Spindles by Loris Cecchini is a vital and dynamic work, like Prato, of which it represents the metaphor. Installed in front of the medieval walls, it was commissioned by the Cassa di Risparmio di Prato Foundation and is a gift to the city that never stops, is always renewed and looks to the future.
Cecchini started from the spindles, that is, from the history of Prato's textile production, to weld this identity with the dynamic dimension of the city, to define a work that has no beginning and no end. The modular structure in steel and aluminum is composed of 50 elements, each in turn divided into three coupled parts. The artist ventures into a work of never experienced dimensions: visually the sculpture is highly organic, reminiscent of plants and natural organisms. It looks like an imposing tree, it measures approx. 10 m of base and height, and 9 of depth. Each piece is grafted at different angles, it becomes a sort of natural algorithm, which lies between nature and science and between technology and mathematics.
Cecchini knows Prato and its vocation for contemporaneity. He also collaborated with the Pecci Center and the Municipality to create Waterbones, a permanent installation set up on the facade of the Lazzerini Library.
