The Quinto Martini Museum home
The Quinto Martini museum home is located in Seano, a few steps from the Museum Park dedicated to him where 36 bronze statues and bas-reliefs are set. This is the place where the artist retired to create his works and which he imagined as open, inclusive, usable by citizens. Today it houses more than a thousand works, from sculptures to paintings to plaster and cement casts. Some of the statues made in this place are housed in the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg and in the Novecento Museum in Florence.
Quinto Martini (1908-1990) was the son of peasants and right in the fields he kneaded the mud to create animal shapes. Crucial for him was to meet, in 1926, with Ardengo Soffici who recognized his talent and encouraged him, becoming his mentor.
His works talk of the earth's vitality and the poetry of nature, but also of ordinary men and women. Visiting his museum home, with the tools of the trade clearly visible, means getting close to the great sculptor and painter but also knowing something more about the man and the artist.
It can be visited by reservation on the second and fourth weekend of every month (phone 338.6335362 Wed., Thu., Fri. 10 a.m.-5 p.m.).
