Municipal Gallery
Located on the first floor of Palazzo Comunale, the Quadreria, or picture gallery, consists of various rooms. The first arrangement of the collection of paintings dates from the early 16th century, after which it was enriched with new acquisitions over the course of time. The paintings depicting the Illustrious Men and Benefactors of the city date from the 19th century, the time of Cesare Guasti and Antonio Marini, two Prato-born representatives of Purism in Tuscany. On display are restored paintings depicting the Patron Saints of the city and interesting frescoes by Pietro di Miniato, furnishings and wood carvings, dating back to the late sixteenth and nineteenth centuries, of excellent workmanship.
With the intention of making the collection increasingly visitable, a new exhibition path has recently been set up with paintings and sculptures preserved until now in the depots, bringing to light pieces of extraordinary value that embellish the rooms of the most important city palace.
